Szczesny Aiming For Golden Glove Award
Arsenal goalkeeper Szczesny has stated that he wants to win the Golden glove award this campaign by beating Chelsea number one Petr Cech. After a stunning second-half to the season, the Czech Republic goalkeeper leads the standings in terms of clean sheets. With just a couple of matches remaining in the season, Szczesny is not far behind. There is a chance that both players could end up on the same number of clean sheets since Cech is not going to play again this campaign. He suffered a shoulder injury while playing for Chelsea in the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid.
He is set to return to the first-team only at the start of next season after recently undergoing surgery. After a few stumbles in the middle of the campaign when he looked like surrendering his place to second choice goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, Szczesny appears to have regained his form once again. He is set to remain as the Arsenal first choice goalkeeper in the Premier League towards the end of the season. Fabianski, however, will be getting a chance to play in the FA Cup final when Arsenal take on Hull City.
Szczesny has stated that the clean sheet record was his mind in the previous 1-0 win over Fulham last weekend. “I think I’m level with Cech, and I must admit it was in my head for the last 10 or 15 minutes of the [West Brom] game and I didn’t want to concede. We’ve had a fantastic defensive record at home and we kept it going here. That’s something that we want to keep next season. If I win the Golden Glove I would love it but it doesn’t matter right now,” said the Arsenal goalkeeper, has also made sure that the club will be finishing in the top four this season.
