RESPECT THE CAP

The England national team manager Roy Hodgson has said that he feels that every player should treat an England cap with utmost respect and honour. The England manager recently selected number of new players for the national team that will play a friendly match against Sweden. The likes of Sterling, Zaha, and Jenkinson will be part of the new England team. The England team that took part in the recent Euro 2012 featured a number of experienced players like Steven Gerrard and John Terry. However, a number of experienced players will now be omitted for this squad partly because of injuries and partly because of providing experience to new players.

However, Roy Hodgson has said that each player should not take it as just another game because winning an England cap is something special. The Liverpool midfielder Sterling has made just 10 appearances in the Premier league this season. However, he has been one of the impressive players for Liverpool in an otherwise poor season. Similarly, the Arsenal defender Jenkinson has also been one of the standout players for his team. Meanwhile, Zaha has been spoken of as the next big thing, as he has already helped Crystal Palace top the Championship table.

“It is very simple for me: to be asked to play for England is a major honour and a major feather in people’s caps. I am not interested in people who are deciding whether England is where they want to be or whether they want to be somewhere else. I have spoken to Sterling and Zaha. Both have assured me that they have started with England and that’s where they want to end up,” said Roy Hodgson ahead of the friendly match with Sweden. Sweden are expected to come with a full strength team that will include Ibrahimovic.
