ARSENAL AGREE DEAL TO SIGN WHITE
North London giants Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle to sign England international Ben White from Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion. The Athletic journalist David Ornstein revealed the news of the agreement between two Premier League teams on Friday evening.
Arsenal initially made a first offer of £40m for England international White and it was turned down by the Seagulls before a second Arsenal offer of £45m was met by the same response.
Other teams were interested in signing White but they all conceded defeat to the Gunners since the player decided to move to North London even before the two clubs started negotiations over his transfer. Premier League champions Manchester City and Merseyside giants Everton were all keen on a move for the player this summer.
White, 23, is expected to have a medical in North London in the coming days after Arsenal and Brighton agreed a £50m deal for him. The Seagulls were adamant that their £50m valuation must be met before the player would be given the permission for the transfer. White had already agreed a five-year deal with the Gunners before the two teams involved reached an agreement.
England international White was a regular in the Brighton squad last season upon his return to the club from a loan spell at Leeds United. He made 36 appearances for the Seagulls in the league.
