Danny Drinkwater has been one of the biggest success stories
Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has been one of the biggest success stories of the 2015-16 season.
He would have been an unlikely candidate to feature in the England squad at the Euro 2016, but this is now a possibility after helping Leicester City win the league title. Drinkwater was one of the important members of the league campaign and he could have even won the PFA Player of the Year had it not been for the presence of names like Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. However, there are suggestions that Roy Hodgson may actually drop Drinkwater from the final squad in favour of Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.
Wilshere is now once again fit and available for the national team after having spent almost the entire season on the sidelines. In fact, he has had a very poor fitness record over the last two years. Yet, his inclusion in the provisional squad has been surprising to many especially Drinkwater, but the midfielder claims that he will not find faults with the manager if he is not included in the final squad. Drinkwater has been one of the great characters in English football over the last 12 months and his latest statement is a testament to this fact.
“The midfield has a lot of quality and the players we are talking about have ridiculous quality. They have played at the top level so I would understand. If it happens I will understand and I’ll work hard again next season and see where it goes. I’m just going to train how I usually train and work really hard and if I’m in the [final] 23, I’m in the 23. There are three games to play [Turkey, Australia and Portugal] and everyone needs to stay fit and I need to keep my fitness, and hopefully I’ll be there at the end,” said the Leicester City midfielder.
