SAKA DOUBTFUL FOR UKRAINE CLASH

By Marc

Arsenal starlet Bukayo Saka is a big doubt for the Three Lions of England ahead of their quarterfinal meeting with Ukraine at the StadioOlimpico, Rome on Saturday. England manager Gareth Southgate revealed that Saka is doubtful for the Euro 2020 quarterfinal clash with the Ukrainians during his pre-match press conference on Friday. He told reporters that Saka picked up a knock in training and that made him a doubt for the Ukraine clash. Southgate went on to say that all the other England players are fit to start the game.

19-year-old England attacker Saka has impressed a great deal for his country at the ongoing European Championship. The Arsenal player didn’t start the first two England games but was able to take his opportunity when he was named in the starting XI for the third game.

Arsenal utility player Saka was on the bench for the entire duration of the opening game for the Three Lions of England in Group D. He was an unused substitute as England began their Euro 2020 campaign with a 1-0 win over Croatia thanks to the goal from Raheem Sterling who has been an important player for Premier League champions Manchester City over the past seasons. Thereafter, Saka was not named in the England squad for the second group game, a goalless draw with Scotland.

England manager Southgate gave Saka his first taste of Euro 2020 when he was named in the starting XI and the Arsenal player went on to bag the man-of-the-match award as England beat the Czech Republic 1-0 to win their group with seven points from three games. Sterling was again the recipient of the only goal of the game against the Czechs. Saka retained his place in the England XI for the huge round of 16 clash with old foes Germany. England beat the Germans 2-0 to seal a place in the quarterfinals at the Euro 2020 tournament.
